[16:1]  1 tn Or “tokens of peace”; NIV “fellowship offerings.”

[28:9]  2 tn Heb “know.”

[28:9]  3 tn Heb “with a complete heart and a willing being.”

[28:9]  4 tn Heb “he will allow himself to be found by you.”

[28:2]  5 tn Heb “I, with my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and for a stool of the feet of our God.”

[7:14]  6 sn See the note on the word “concubine” in 1:32.

[16:12]  7 tn Heb “and the judgments of his mouth.”

[18:4]  8 tn Or “horsemen.”

[18:4]  9 tn Heb “his”; the referent (Hadadezer) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[18:4]  10 tn Heb “and David cut the hamstrings of all the chariot horses, and he left from them one hundred chariot horses.”

[18:2]  11 tn Heb “and the Moabites were servants of David, carriers of tribute.”

[20:4]  12 tn Heb “battle stood.”

[20:4]  13 tn The parallel text in 2 Sam 21:18 identifies this site as “Gob.”

[20:4]  14 tn The parallel text in 2 Sam 21:18 has the variant spelling “Saph.”

[20:4]  15 tn Heb “they”; the referent (the Philistines) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[24:6]  16 tn Heb “this [is the] generation of the ones seeking him, the ones seeking your face, Jacob.” To “seek the Lord’s face” means to seek his favor through prayer (see 2 Sam 21:1; Pss 27:8; 105:4).

[24:6]  sn This verse presents a somewhat idealized view of Jacobs descendants as devoted worshipers of the Lord.

[27:8]  17 tc Heb “concerning you my heart says, ‘Seek my face.’” The verb form “seek” is plural, but this makes no sense here, for the psalmist is addressed. The verb should be emended to a singular form. The first person pronominal suffix on “face” also makes little sense, unless it is the voice of the Lord he hears. His “heart” is viewed as speaking, however, so it is better to emend the form to פָּנָיו (panayv, “his face”).

[27:8]  18 tn Heb “your face, O Lord, I seek.” To “seek the Lord’s face” means to seek his favor through prayer (see 2 Sam 21:1; Pss 24:6; 105:4).

[119:58]  19 tn Heb “I appease your face.”

[119:58]  20 tn Heb “according to your word.”

[8:17]  21 sn In contrast to the word for “hate” (שָׂנֵא, shaneh) the verb “love” (אָהֵב, ’ahev) includes within it the idea of choosing spontaneously. So in this line loving and seeking point up the means of finding wisdom.
